Facilitators
for Art and Traveling Exhibitions - FATE
FATE was born in Velddrif on the West Coast in October 2008...
I started this organisation because I could not find employment
after losing my job to BEE. Artists paint better than they sell
and I am a marketer, so I decided to sell art.
Although we have many guest houses, hotels, restaurants and visitors
we do not have a constant flow of people buying art. Most of the
artists are members of the West Coast Art Guild but we did not really
have enough exhibitions to showcase our work.
FATE takes art to venues the artist would not ordinarily visit,
instead of 10 artists traveling to exhibit their work at galleries.
FATE arranges exhibitions at various galleries in different towns
thus promoting the artists, saving them money and keeping the carbon
footprint to a minimum by keeping cars off the roads etc.!
We have been to Franschhoek, the West Coast National Park, and are
currently exhibiting at the brand new West Coast Mall in Vredenburg
which openened its doors on 26 March 2009.
We sold our first painting on opening day for a sum of
R10,000.00! (within an hour after opening our doors) see photo.
The main objective was to sell ONLY works of West Coast artists
but now people from all over South Africa are calling to become
members of FATE!
FATE is exhibiting at Daddy Long Legs hotel in Cape Town from the
end of April 2009 and has confirmed several more exhibitions for
this year.
I am looking for ways to help our artists, to teach and promote
previously disadvantaged people, I am teaching 3 at the moment.
We live in a small fishing town where unemployment is huge and I
want to keep the kids off the streets and burglaries to minimum.
