After my boat engine broke down, I was not able to update you with fishing information, but fortunately some fishermen from the two fishing forums, Sealine and Cape Town fishing, came to my rescue with covering some of the costs to obtain a good replacement..so it`s all systems “go” again.
The Langebaan lagoon does not operate well in terms of fishing when a cold front is approaching like last weekend and nor does it when it`s Spring Tide which will be this coming weekend. With Spring Tide, the current is just too strong for the smaller bait fish to outface the strong flow of the water. With all the shoals of “harders” and “anchovie” now present in the lagoon, one can be sure the fish has not gone away..all you need to do this weekend is to fish areas that are the least effected by the strong current…areas like Lientjiesklip, Paradise beach, Spreeuwalle or Saldanha harbour area. You may however try to fish the bottom part of the lagoon, but then do so closer to the turn of the tide when the current is not that strong. Make sure you use a heavy sinker that will keep your bait at the bottom when the current is too strong. When targeting Stumpnose use a shorter trace while with Kob and Elf use a “Y” trace that`s longer. Those fishing from boats make sure that you change your bait often as with Spring Tide there are many sealice at the turn of the tide that will clean your bait. Also consider a “tuff” type of bait like chokka, harders or a fillet of steentjie
Most Kob and Elf will be taken at night time now and you should not even take the time to target them during the day. Stumps however will be around at all hours. Now when going for Stumps do not expect the normal pull and then you strike…no you will have to just keep your line as tight as possible and when you feel it becomes heavy…using a lot of imagination as well, then it`s time to strike.
Low tide should be around 08h30 on Saturday. No wind is expected..so it might be a very pleasant day and a day to bring the whole family out for the outing.
Well take care and be safe.
God bless.
